Overhauling

Overhauling or rebuilding marine diesel engines is in our DNA

An overhaul gives your marine diesel engine a second life

An overhaul extends the lifespan of your marine diesel engine by decades, which saves both time and money in the long run. It is also always a rewarding job, because an overhauled engine looks like new again and runs like it too.

What happens during an overhaul

During an overhaul the engine is opened up completely and all units come out, so that we can inspect, measure and assess every critical component: the crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, cylinder liners and cylinder heads. Whatever no longer meets specification, we recondition or replace with original or equivalent components, so that your engine meets factory specifications again afterwards, with its power, reliability and efficiency retained.

A major advantage of overhauling over replacing is that the engine foundation stays untouched. It retains sufficient strength and rigidity after the overhaul, so the engine can go straight back in without any modifications to your vessel.

Your engine's running hours determine the moment

An overhaul is driven by running hours, and afterwards the counter starts again until the next service interval. Depending on the engine type and the fuel you run on, the next overhaul follows somewhere between twelve and twenty-four thousand running hours. Ignoring those hours is above all a financial risk: if your engine runs one hundred and thirty thousand hours when a service was due at one hundred thousand, you are thirty thousand hours past your maintenance interval, and talking to your insurer and classification society becomes difficult.

Overhaul of all marine diesel engines

An overhaul starts well before the first spanner is picked up. Report to us in advance and, based on your hour count and your maintenance manual, we work out which components are needed. Once you approve, we order everything up front, so that no day is lost during the job waiting for parts.

In that same planning we lock in our specialists, because liners are sent out for honing, and the governor and injection pump go to specialist companies. We keep an eye on those dates, so everything is back at the moment we need it.

Measuring before we replace

We work in our own workshop in IJmuiden or simply on board with you, with our own team of specialised mechanics, and we measure everything against the manufacturer's specifications. Parts that need replacing are never replaced without your approval.

Nothing without your approval

We never buy parts without your approval, and our workshop is open to you, because they are, after all, your parts.

Our possibilities

  • Overhauling

    From crankshaft to piston

We take on rotating parts: crankshaft, main bearings, connecting rods, pistons and cylinder liners are measured to factory specification and replaced only where needed. Cylinder heads, valve gear, injectors, injection pump and lube and cooling systems come with it.

  • Overhauling

    Any brand, any application

Wärtsilä, MaK, MAN or Deutz: for an overhaul the brand makes no difference to us, and we are happy to overhaul other brands too. Our experience ranges from fishing vessels and tugboats to dredgers and container ships, so we know what each job requires of an engine.

  • Overhauling

Per cylinder or the complete engine

We don't offer fixed packages, because no two engines are in the same condition. What gets done, we decide jointly based on your hour count and the actual condition of the engine. If your vessel shouldn't have to go out of its way, we simply work on board with you.
